now....folks can argue the merits and cons of these initiatives all they want. that is an entirely separate matter. my beef is with those who argue that this is simply about a private act and a piece of paper - that it has no other dimensions or impacts. that is a lie. it is the blatant dishonesty I am reacting to....not the quality of the assertions about right/wrong, moral/immoral being made.
there is an agenda in play. there is a political dimension. and there are impacts.
My mother says the same thing. Maybe I'm naive (try not to laugh too hard), but I think their agenda is simply to get the government to recognize the legitimacy of gay marriage, and by extension, to normalize homosexuality. Am I missing something else? Mom tends to launch into a diatribe about how they are attacking Christianity and wanting to tear that down and all that, and maybe they are, maybe they aren't. I think FOX News has done such a marvelous job convincing everyone that a War on Christmas exists that some people (ala mi madre) read more into it than is actually there.
Just my opinion though.
Even though sucess is reality, it's effects are temporary.
Political change of heart, but he may have felt this way all along. He is straddling the fence because he has stated that the issue should be decided by states. In other words his position doesn't mean much. Just reaching for votes and financial support.
Is anyone surprised. Politicians do it all the time.
